¿Hay algo más después de la vida? ¿La inmortalidad del alma? A lo largo de mi vida, y de alguna manera en un momento de nuestras vidas, habremos pensado qué sigue después de la muerte. En lo personal, quisiera tener la probabilidad o la esperanza de seguir existiendo. Es en ese punto es que el análisis del riesgo entró a tallar con las ideas religiosas, en qué sucede después de la vida, ahí el mito de la inmortalidad del alma y su conexión con la filosofía. Tal como mencionó Sócrates en una disertación sobre la inmortalidad del alma, “es conveniente creer en el mito y que vale la pena correr el riesgo de creer que es así antes de beber el veneno”.
Un toque aún mas fino dentro de mis lecturas, y que me llamo bastante la atención, motivo por el cual lo comparto con ustedes, es el uso del argumento de una matriz de 2 x 2 para evidenciar la ventaja de la conversión al cristianismo, teniendo dos alternativas: aceptar el cristianismo o mantenerse no creyente (pagano) a la existencia de Dios.
Como resultado del planteamiento de que “Si Dios no existe no hay diferencia entre las dos alternativas, pero si Dios existe ser un cristiano es ampliamente mejor para el alma que ser pagano”. De forma particular, Dios tiene una gran importancia en mi vida; simplemente quiero denotar el uso del principio heurístico para la toma de decisiones bajo condiciones de riesgo e incertidumbre, que utilizó posteriormente Pascal. ¿Por qué? Porque es quien lanzó, en conjunto con Fermat, la “teoría de probabilidad” bajo la “distribución de probabilidades” para la existencia de Dios, donde como resultado obtuvo que “el valor esperado de ser cristiano, excede en mucho el valor esperado del ateísmo”. Sin darnos cuenta, ya hemos entrado al tema de probabilidades en el estudio del riesgo y/o incertidumbre. Antes de seguir, de forma particular puedo decir sin temor a equivocarme: “La armonía y la perfección del universo es algo Divino, la cuestión es como sintonizar con esa armonía”.

Halley: Astrónomo, matemático y físico inglés. Publicó en la revista “Philosophical Transactions” un artículo sobre tasas de mortalidad, donde mejora la tabla de esperanza de vida relacionándola a la estadística.
Bernoulli: Matemático, estadístico suizo. Conocido por su aporte con la distribución de Bernoulli (o distribución dicotómica); reconocido también como distribución de la probabilidad discreta, donde toma el valor 1 si hay probabilidad de éxito y el valor “0” si la probabilidad es de fracaso.
Laplace: Matemático, astrónomo y físico francés. Conocido por su Modelo Laplace y la transformación de este en el estudio de las funciones de distribución, la esperanza y la varianza.
